INDIA 18 is a collection of oils, watercolours, acrylics and mixed media studies capturing the incredible energy and vibrancy of Rajasthan. With a particular focus on Udaipur, Tom Hoar presents a mesmerising mix of light and colour from across the lake and through the streets of this beautiful city in northern India.
Using quick drying and versatile acrylics, Tom painted several pieces ‘en plein air’ on the spot out in India. Setting up his easel on the Ghats overlooking Lake Pichola, in the midst of the markets and on busy street corners, Tom painted through the early mornings, late afternoons and into the evenings.
Back in his studio in Dorset he completed the mix of oils, watercolours and pastels to present a comprehensive portfolio of studies, sketches and large-scale paintings, combining the immediacy of paint with the considered inventiveness of working in the studio.
