Born in 1973, Will Maw is an experienced and talented artist printmaker and graduate from the Glasgow School of Art and the Royal College of Art.

Will Maw’s latest collection, ‘A Natural History of the Printing of Money,’ is a series of digital prints which asks the viewer to think about the relationship between art, money and the printed image.  Officially titled, ‘Histoire Naturelle d’Impremerie Economique,’ Will has created an extensive collection of small collages that all derive in some part from printed banknotes from around the world.  As he explains ‘money is the ultimate limited edition print.’

From this basis he uses a myriad of images from a range of sources, both old and new, combining text, portraiture, mathematical geometries and the definitive image of printed value. In its entirety the ‘Histoire’ comprises of 84 collages, distilled on a computer, constructed in pieces and then printed in multiple layers.

Both individually and as a collection they are a series of powerful, engaging and sometimes demanding visual images; and a timely reminder that money, power and sex have always formed a heady mixture.

Will Maw’s portfolio includes drawings, screenprints and digital images which have each increasingly earned him growing respect as an individual, challenging and highly talented artist and printmaker. Alongside producing his own work, Will Maw has worked both as a publishing printmaker editioning work for Glasgow Print Studio and Advanced Graphics London.
